Privacy Policy
Effective date: 18 July 2026
This is the website of J. McCarthy Books (“I,” “me”). I keep this simple, because it is: I collect as little as possible, I don’t sell anything you give me, and you can leave at any time.
What I collect
Your email address, if you choose to join my newsletter. That’s the only information the signup form asks for.
Basic technical information that any website receives when you visit — such as your browser type and pages viewed. This site is hosted by Vercel, which may process standard server logs. I do not run analytics or tracking scripts on this site.
Anything you send me directly, if you email contact@jmccarthybooks.com — I’ll have your email address and whatever you wrote, and I’ll use them only to reply.
What I do with it
If you subscribe, I use your email address to send you the free reader documents you signed up for and my newsletter — occasional letters about the Keiko Ito Mystery Series, new releases, and the world behind the books. That’s all. I don’t sell, rent, or trade your information, and this site carries no advertising.
Who helps me process it
My newsletter runs on Kit (kit.com), which stores subscriber email addresses on my behalf and handles delivery. Kit’s own privacy practices are described at kit.com/privacy. Reader documents may be delivered through Kit or through book-delivery services such as BookFunnel, which process your email only to deliver what you requested. I don’t share your information with anyone else, except if required by law.
Leaving
Every email I send includes an unsubscribe link. One click and you’re out — no questions, no wait, and your address is removed from active sending. If you’d like your information deleted entirely, email contact@jmccarthybooks.com and I’ll remove it from my systems and ask my providers to do the same.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask me what information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it — just email. If you’re in California, the EU, the UK, or another place with specific privacy laws, those laws may give you additional formal rights; the practical version is the same: write to me and I’ll take care of it.
Children
This site and newsletter aren’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has subscribed, email me and I’ll delete the address.
Cookies
This site uses only the cookies strictly necessary for it to function. No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking.
Changes
If I change this policy, I’ll update it here and revise the effective date. If a change is significant, I’ll mention it in the newsletter.
